Quarantine Day 12: Bicycles
This is starting to feel normal.
I knew it would happen, but it I didn't know that it would happen so fast.
I guess that's what happens when you stick to a schedule and keep routines.
Speaking of, we were able to order some kids bikes off of an internet store here (like Amazon, but also not at all). We thought this could be a good quarantine activity and would save us during the girls’ free time.
Insert, “I'm bored”.
They were supposed to be a surprise, but four little eyes happened to see them when they were delivered. At that point, we hit a new level of parenting.
Did we bribe our children with the bikes that they saw, in order to get good behavior the next day? Yes.
Did we bribe our children to actually follow the rules of quiet hour? Yes.
Do we feel bad about our choices? Nope.
Amazingly, Thursday night and Friday morning, noon, and quiet time were fantastic. All we heard out of these little mouth were, “yes mama” and “yes papa”.
(For the record, I'm not a fan of bribes and merit based systems, but I'm still not apologizing for this one)
Anyway. We set out to ride bikes.
“This will be easy”
“I want to get on and go by myself”
“Why do we have to walk across the road?”
Crash. “Ooooooooowwwwwww”
“I hate this bike!” “I don't want to ride anymore!”
I have to give it to Steven, because in about 2 hours, between 7 and 10 (not serious) boo boos, LOTS of tears, 4 threats of giving up, and two tiny beings of sheer determination - they BOTH did it.
No training wheels.
Granted, neither of them know how to stop. That's another day's lesson.
Day twelve.
