Take A Step in Our Shoes

Take A Step in Our Shoes

As all of you, my family is currently locked in during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine.

I see many posts on social media and am hearing from all around the world that people like me are learning first hand what it is like to be home with their kids all day (and also realizing that teachers should, in fact, be paid more). I’m not going to lie, I was a little worried as well, now that my kids’ current situation of being home-schooled by our friend has turned into being home-schooled by me (we have already tried this once, and let me tell you - it is not my forte).

Anyway, I have decided to take this time to share just a small snippet of our lives each day (for either your entertainment, awe, or pity - we’ll see how this goes!)

To give you some insight before jumping right in, let me tell you a bit about our family.

  1. We are crazy

  2. We are unconventional

  3. We have to so some things a bit differently than everyone else

We are an odd bunch made up of five heartbeats, 8 hands, 8 feet, 40 fingers and 40 toes, 4 paws, and one tail.

We often joke that our life could be a sitcom, so for your enjoyment, I have given it a go..

The cast of our sitcom is as follows:

Papa: Steven

Mama: Erin

Big Sister (9 years old): Amelia

Little Sister (6 years old): Rowan

Furry Friend (comic relief): Mila

Our show began with two young and crazy kids who left everything they knew to pursue a life in Ukraine. Mama, being an Occupational Therapist and Papa being an outdoors-man. They hit many challenges, had many victories, and even more learning experiences. Then, in a short amount of time, they blinked and their home was full of the pitter patter (okay, maybe more like inexplicable stomping and tromping) of little feet. We join them now as they navigate the challenges and joys of child rearing, the stares and (sometimes unwelcome) comments of neighbors, and a sometime frustrating and sometimes hilarious language barrier.

All joking aside, I am going to do my absolute imperfect best at daily sharing a laugh, a cry, a teaching moment, a learning moment, etc. during our next few weeks in quarantine.

So tie your laces and I hope you enjoy a step in our shoes..
